Drummer Gayelynn McKinney from Detroit, Michigan, discusses her new CD It’s About Time. Her drumming style is electric, from jazz to latin to rock to funk. Her style has uncanny improvisation, power, speed and deliberate control. A founding member of the Detroit based, Grammy nominated all female jazz group STRAIGHT AHEAD, McKinney is also a talented saxophonist and singer.
April 8 @ 6-8 p.m. – Aziza Miller is a composer, arranger, pianist, poet,vocalist and music educator. Aziza is a Yamaha endorsed keyboard artist. She is a long time associate and former musical director and pianist for Natalie Cole. Aziza’s first platinum song is “La Costa”, recorded by both Natalie Cole and Ahmad Jamal.
April 15 @ 6-8 p.m. – Maggie Brown made her professional acting and singing debut at the Body Politic Theater. She studied music, theater and voice at Columbia College. The daughter of legendary singer and poet, Oscar Brown Jr., Maggie is captivating in her presentation and delivers a powerful performance singing spirituals, jazz, contemporary hip hop or rapping. In 1997, she helped the Chicago House Of Blues develop a Blues Schoolhouse student outreach program. Besides performing her “LEGACY” show, Maggie tours, promoting her CD From My Window on Mag Pie Records.
